   Radio-frequency identification (RFID)

RFIDRadio-frequency identification (RFID) is a tracking device that is incorporated into an asset for identification using radio waves.  RFID tags can be read from 300 feet away.
Active RFID tags are used mainly for locating purposes, providing security of the product and peace of mind to the owner.  Each RFID is uniquely coded and, combined with GPS, it gives you a guarantee that you will always know where your asset is.  Unlike passive RFID tags that just store information about an object and require no power source (your dog might have one behind its ear); active RFIDs come with a battery that lasts about three month.
RFID tags are used in library book or bookstore tracking, pallet tracking, building access control, airline baggage tracking, and apparel and pharmaceutical items tracking.  Tags can be incorporated into the products or placed on the boxes containing valuable items.  The next step is to evaluate your situation and determine proper placement of the RFID tags for complete tracking control of your assets.
